Supporting and Engaging Individuals and Organisationsin Community Development
We are in a position to offer culturally sensitive advice as well as being able to refer people to a wide range of specialist partners. We would like to be of assistance, not only to the Tamil Community, but to any groups or individuals who think we could be of some help to them in working through their social or emotional problems. We believe that this is the way forward to creating a climate of inclusion and mutual respect.
Throughout
the year we offer various opportunities for educational
and social gatherings. We have recently begun Forums where
participants can meet to discuss their needs in a calm and
relaxed atmosphere, amongst a group of like minded people;
creating awareness and understanding of their difficulties,
as well as working towards solutions.
The family unit is the building block of society. By helping
the family we believe we can help whole communities. With
this in mind, these are some of the programmes we offer:
- Parental advice to deal with adolescent conflict; to prepare parents with young children, or to help those already struggling to cope with teenagers.
- The Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities parent education programme. A community based programme specifically designed to promote some of the protective factors associated with 'good parenting', as well helping parents play an active role in shaping their environment by engaging with community resources.
- Well Woman Workshops for women suffering from mental health issues, low self esteem and stress, and who often feel that they have nowhere to turn.
For young people, we are in contact with, and are developing our own mentors through the Mentoring programme which we run at various times throughout the year. Mentors are able to give support and much needed guidance, especially to underprivileged children who are struggling to achieve or develop for whatever reason.
If you have worries in any of the above mentioned areas, would like help with other concerns, or would just like to find out more about the services we provide, please, don’t hesitate to contact us.
