About Us
The Association of Tamil Parishioners UK (ATP-UK) assists mainly, the Tamils in Britain to enhance their social and spiritual well-being with a focus primarily on parents and children, aiming to address their express needs and concerns.
It grew from an initiative taken by a group of Tamil Parishioners in Southeast London, and established as a registered charity (No: 1107935) in 2005. Services are delivered from our operational office in the London Borough of Lewisham. We occasionally employ staff depending on funds; however, we rely mostly on the generosity of volunteers to deliver our services.
Our mission is: To empower the Tamils in Britain, without regard to religion, gender, or socio-economic status, to overcome social, economic, and cultural barriers, and to help them become contributing, productive citizens in an integrated and sustainable way. Our aims are:
- To offer culturally sensitive services to the Tamil Community, as well as supporting them in accessing relevant mainstream resources.
- To offer our expertise and resources to other individuals or communities to whom it may benefit.
- To work in partnership with other community and public sector groups to improve quality and efficiency.
- To strengthen cohesion and integration both within and outside of the Tamil community.
- To build the capacity of the Tamil community to influence public sector strategy.
In consultation with the Tamil Community, we will continue to develop and extend our programmes to support the changing needs of our service users; furthermore, we are endeavouring to expand our services to include other parts of London.
Whilst we are established primarily to assist the Tamil Community, where it is practical, we aim to be of help to those who request our assistance.
